The GIRanch Project is associated with the thesmartpup project. It is owned by the same client and was a very similar situation. When I got involved it was an old Joomla site that the client was not able to do anything with and it had several problems that needed to be resolved. I migrated the site to WordPress, taught the client how to use some of the features and added ease of use and more functionalities at the same time. The site is included in the client’s Site Maintenance Contract and has received some revisions in the last few years.
